Yup, that’s me…1963. I’ve had a camera around my neck or in my hand since I was ten. If someone had told me at that time that a camera would be with me the rest of my life, I would have been totally excited by that news.
Funny how that haircut and glasses are back in style again today, five decades later! The more things change…
After getting a degree in psychology at California Lutheran University, I decided to head in a different direction, and got a degree in photography from the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. My training is in commercial photography, which in terms of lighting and camera work, gave me a huge leg up on the competition when I began doing portrait work in the early 1990’s.
We now have two studios, one in Westlake Village serving the Ventura and L.A. Counties, and another in Mission Viejo serving the Orange and San Diego Counties.
Our work is largely focused on family portraits, with an emphasis on creating painted portraits. In addition, I have been working with a lot of equestrians and their horses and I’ve done over 500 equestrian portraits in the last five years!
I’ve lost a bit of hair over the years, but kept a cool pair of glasses. Come for a visit, and let me share with you my love for celebrating families by creating and decorating homes with wall portraiture.
Life goes by so quickly…celebrate your family today through a Brandes portrait.
